What Is Consent?
Consent is a clear, enthusiastic, and ongoing agreement to engage in any sexual activity. It must be freely given, reversible, informed, enthusiastic, and specific (FRIES model).
What Consent Is Not
Consent is not silence. Consent is not assumed from past experiences. Consent cannot be given by someone who is intoxicated, asleep, or otherwise unable to make a free decision.
How to Ask for Consent
Asking for consent does not have to be awkward. Simple questions like "Is this okay?" or "Do you want to continue?" create an environment of mutual respect and safety.
